This critical role supports the investment team to ensure that all legal, statutory and regulatory requirements are met. A large majority of the work will relate to the review of investment related agreements, new investment structures, asset divestments, and coordinating the use of investment related external legal advice. There will also be some general Fund and commercial work depending on investment related workloads.  Located within the Legal and Governance team, the role has a primary focus on supporting the investments team by providing legal advice and support to investment staff, the Board and the Investment Committee.  Key functions are:

  1. Legal – review Investment Management Agreements, contracts, legal agreements and other legal documentation as they relate to the Investment functions. Ensure that they meet relevant legal standards and laws and protect the interests of the members and the Trustee. Analyse and interpret legal documents. Assist the investment team with due diligence of new acquisitions and disposals of assets
  2. Compliance and Risk Management – With the Senior Manager, Investment Governance, manage the Fund’s operational due diligence process and all related ongoing operational compliance and risk management programs. Assist the Risk Manager as required with compliance sign off of investment operational due diligence
  3. Governance and Policy – Assist in the drafting of key documents such as the Fund’s modern slavery statement and other primarily investment related policy documents as required. Review investment policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and ensure consistency with other policies across the business. Contribute as required to Board and Committee papers 

You have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law, and a current practising certificate;
  • Substantial post – graduation experience (5-10 years plus);
  • A strong contracts background, especially in the investment area;
  • Strong risk and compliance experience;
  • Current knowledge of the superannuation industry, regulation and legislative frameworks; and
  • Strong drafting skills, and advanced communication capabilities
